A Kanban board can work without signup by saving your data in your web browser rather than in an online account. That makes it instant and private, but your board exists only in that one browser, so losing your browser data means losing the board.
How it works
Browsers include a feature called local storage, which lets a website save a small amount of data on your device. A no-signup board like kanban.fit saves your cards there every time you make a change.
Because there's no account, there's nothing to set up: you open the page and start. Because your boards aren't uploaded, there's also no copy of them on a company's servers.
What you gain
- No signup. There's no email, password or verification step.
- Privacy. Your task list isn't stored in a vendor's cloud.
- Speed. Your board loads from your own device, with no waiting on a server when you move a card.
What you give up
These are real limits, and worth knowing before you rely on a board like this:
- Clearing browser data deletes your boards. That includes "clear site data" and some cleanup tools.
- Private windows don't keep them. Boards created in a private or incognito window are lost when it closes.
- No sync. A board made in Chrome on your laptop won't appear on your phone, or even in Firefox on the same laptop.
- No collaboration. Nobody else can see or edit your board.
- Limited storage. Browsers usually allow around 5 MB per site. That's a lot of text cards, but it isn't unlimited.
kanban.fit doesn't have an export feature yet, so for anything you can't afford to lose, keep a copy elsewhere too.
Is your data completely private?
Check two separate things on any local-first tool: where the data is stored, and what the website measures.
On kanban.fit, boards aren't uploaded. The website does use analytics (Vercel Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) to understand how it's used, and board contents are masked from Clarity recordings. The privacy page has the details.
When no-signup is the right choice
It's a good fit when:
- You're the only person using the board.
- You mostly use one computer.
- You're trying Kanban for the first time.
- The board is for short-term or personal work.
Choose an account-based tool when:
- Other people need to see your board.
- You switch between devices often.
- Losing the board would be a serious problem.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Kanban board without an account?
Yes. kanban.fit opens with no account and saves boards on your device. Super Productivity is another no-account option, available as an installable app.
What happens to my board if I close the browser?
It stays there. Local storage persists after you close the tab or restart your computer, unless you're in a private window or clear your site data.
Can I move my board to another device?
Not on kanban.fit today. There's no sync or export yet, so you'd need to recreate the board.
